Abstract

The large amount of heat generated in grinding is the main factor responsible for dimensional accuracy of a workpiece. This has become an important concern from the viewpoint of grinding using less coolant due to environmental concerns. Although extensive studies have been conducted regarding heat in grinding, little information is available for practical applications. Therefore, we combined a simulation model of the cylindrical plunge grinding process and a numerical analysis method with the finite differencing method for the non-steady heat conduction problem, and have constructed a simulation technique for analyzing the heat problem in the workpiece. The simulation results provide information on heat conduction and thermal deformation of the workpiece.
