説明

Yahata-machi lies about 20 kilometers east from the center of Tokyo,
(1) Yahata-machi and its neighboring agricultural district have suppeied Tokyo (then Edo) with fresh, vegetables, while they have got the supply of human manure from Tokyo and used it as fertilizer from the 8gth century (See Table. 1)
(2) From 1800 to 1842, at Yahata-machi, the volume of trade by the farmers, made a marked increase. (See Table. IV)
(3) There could be seen the following relations between the Choshi Road on the plateau called Shimofusa-Daichi and the Sakura Road running through the plain.
a) Along the latter-Sakura Road, we had much more trade than along the former. (See Fig. I & II, Table. V)
b) The former surpassed the latter in the traffic volume of horses, while the litter in the traffic volume of men. (See Fig. III & IV)
c) Yahata-machi was situated at the point of intersection of both roads.
(4) From the beginning of the 19th century, the commercial activity-especially of the pawnbrokers-became remarkable, and the so-called wide circle of Sukego offering to the postown the supplementary force or labour was formed. (Table. II & III, Fig. V & VI)
It seems to me that these facts formed the, basis of the development of Ichikawa which has been a sotellite city of Tokyo since the traffic revolution.
