抄録

The treatment of bone fragility and deformity of osteogenesis imperfecta is unsatisfactory because we have no available curative therapy.<br>From 1985 to 1994, we attempted to treat surgically 5 of 10 patients with osteogenesis imperfecta. Among these 5 patients, 3 were men and 2 were women (one type I B, one type III, one type IV A, and two type IV B by Sillence classification).<br>Three patients (one type I B and two type IV B) were treated by surgical correction with Bailey-Dubow extensible intramedurally rod. One patient (type III) was treated conservatively as he could not walk preoperatively. One patient (type IV A) transferred to another hospital after short follow-up period.<br>These three operative cases were classified according to Hoffer and Bullock as grade I (one patient), grade III (two patients), and grade V (one patient).
