Abstract

Karyotypes in three species of the Veneridae have been studied. In Circe scripta, a chromosome number of 38(2n) was observed. In both Paphia vernicosa and Irus mitis, chromosome numbers of 19(n) and 38(2n) were observed. The chromosome complements of these three species consist of metacentrics or submetacentrics. In I. mitis, 14 pairs of metacentrics and 5 pairs of submetacentrics were observed.
