Abstract

The chromosome numbers and the karyotypes of two species in Mytilidae are reported, using aceto-orcein squashes of eggs and fire-dryings of testes. In Musculus senhousia chromosome numbers of 15(n) and 30(2n) were counted. In Vignadula atrata chromosome numbers of 11(n) and 22(2n) were counted. The chromosome complement of M. senhousia consists of all meta- or submetacentrics. The chromosome complement of V. atrata consists of 5 pairs of metacentrics, 1 pair of meta- or submetacentrics, 3 pairs of submeta- or subtelocentrics and 2 pairs of subtelocentrics.
