Spectrophotometric determination of organomercuric compounds with Ruhemann's purple.

Description
It was found that Ruhemann's purple [2-(1, 3-dioxoindan-2-yl)-imino-1, 3-indandione] formed complex salts with organomercuric compound such as phenyl mercuric acetate or ethyl mercuric phosphate, and the complexes obtained were extractable with ethyl ether.<BR>A new method of spectrophotometric determination of organomercuric compounds based on the above results was established, where 220μg as Hg of organomercury could be satisfactorily determined.<BR>Although Cu, Zn, Co and Fe were found to give almost no influence on the determination, Ag and Hg (inorganic) disturbed by forming the precipitates partially soluble in ether.
