Abstract

The preparation and preservation of standard solutions in simultaneous multi-element neutron activation analysis was studied. Two sorts of stock solutions, single element and mixed, were prepared for 34 elements and the preservability was tested for a period of about half a year. The concentration change of the stock solutions was checked by neutron activation analysis using Ge(Li) detector with 4096-channel pulse height analyzer whose data can be recorded on a magnetic tape. The data were processed by a computer. The following conclusions were drawn from the experimental results; (1) No difference in concentration change in the test period of preservation was seen between the mixed and single stock solutions, (2) the stock solutions of 22 elements, Ag, Al, Au, Ba, Br, Ca, Cl, Co, Cr, Cs, Eu, Fe, Ga, In, K, Na, Ni, Sc, Sm, Ti, W, and Zn, were stable for 25 weeks at least, (3) concentration of 11 elements, As, Ce, Cu, Hf, La, Lu, Mg, Mn, Se, Th, and V decreased mostly in initial 3 weeks, and slightly thereafter, (4) the stock solution of Sb is not suitable for storage and should be prepared in every analysis. These results served us to save the time and labor of preparing standard solutions.
