Abstract

We report a case of giant mediastinal neurinoma with expansion into the intraspinal canal. We resected the tumor safely with the two-stage operation. The patient was a 52-year-old male. An abnormal shadow in the left lung field was pointed out at a mass survey. The tumor shadow was 15 cm in size, and extended into the intraspinal canal on chest X-ray, CT, and MRI. It was diagnosed as neurinoma by percutaneous fine needle biopsy (PCNB). First we resected the intraspinal portion of the tumor by the posterior route.<BR>Subsequently, the remaining intrathoracic portion of the tumor was resected and reconstruction of the spinal column was performed via the postero-lateral route six weeks later.<BR>Pathological diagnosis was benign neurinoma. The patient improved neurologically, discharged on his foot and had been well after two years.
