抄録

Atropa belladonna is a rich source of tropane alkaloids such as hyoscyamine and scopolamine which are used as antispasmolytic agents. The production of these alkaloids through large scale culture is an important method for establishing industrial processes. Although culture conditions affect the production of alkaloids, the effects of osmotic potential of culture medium on differentiation, growth and alkaloid production are still unclear. In this study, the effects of osmotic potential on differentiation, growth and alkaloid production were investigated.
The growth of roots and calli was inhibited as osmotic potential of culture medium was increased. Although the formation and growth of adventitious buds was not affected by osmotic changes by mannitol or by NaCl, their formation and growth were inhibited by increases in sucrose concentrations.
Tropane alkaloid production was inhibited by increasing the osmotic potential of culture medium.
