Abstract

A specimen of the tropical ghost crab, Ocypode ceratophthalma (Ocypodidae) was obtained on a sandy shore at Kashiwazaki, Niigata Prefecture. This is the first record of the species from the Japan Sea coast of the Honshu Island, Japan. Ecological significance of the occurrence of this tropical species was discussed in the light of the recent climate changes on the Japan Sea.
