Description

Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a self-evaluation scale for nurses in nutritional management.
Methods: A total of 655 nurses were investigated by using a Likert-type questionnaire with 35 items, which were extracted from the result of the literature review, to make clear the “role of nurses in nutritional management.”
Results: Responses were obtained from 403 nurses (response rate: 62%), and 365 were selected for analysis. A factor analysis using the weighted least squares method with promax rotation was conducted. A self-evaluation scale with 24 items in five factors was developed. Five factors were named as “assessment-based food education,” “assistance in eating,” “assistance in enteral nutrition,” “assistance in nutritional management at home,” and “collaboration with other health professionals.” Its Cronbach' s α ranged from 0.743 to 0.908, and Pearson' s for test-retest was from 0.34 to 0.65.
Conclusion: The validity and reliability of the self-evaluation scale for nurses in nutritional management were established.
