The distribution of the Siberian thrush <i>Zoothera sibirica </i> and scaly thrush <i>Zoothera dauma</i> in central and southeastern Hokkaido.

Abstract

<p>The Siberian thrush Zoothera sibirica and scaly thrush Zoothera dauma were surveyed along 996 2-km transects situated in 887 quadrats (4.5km×5km), in central and southeastern Hokkaido from late April to early July, 1976-2013. Siberian thrush occurred in 45 quadrats (5%) and 48 transects (5%) and the corresponding values for scaly thrush was 260 quadrats (29%) and 279 transects (28%). The occurrence frequency for Siberian thrush were 0% in Siberian dwarf pine forests, 7% in ever-green coniferous forests, 21% in mixed forests, 6% in deciduous broad-leaved forests, 0% in larch plantations, 1% in agricultural land with woods and 0% in agricultural land and residential areas. The corresponding values for scaly thrush were 0, 60, 54, 46, 44, 22, 11 and 2%, respectively. For Siberian thrush the occurrence frequency at less than 200m above sea level (asl), 201-400m asl, 601-800m asl, 601-800m asl and 801m asl or above was 1, 7, 17, 25 and 17%, respectively. The corresponding values for scaly thrush were 26, 42, 30, 10 and 17%, respectively.</p>
