The Kyorin University Hospital infection control team (ICT) began monitoring of the use of anti-MRSA agents such as vancomycin (VCM), teicoplanin (TEIC) and arbekacin (ABK) from the end of September 2004. Changes in the use of anti-MRSA agents were retrospectively examined during three periods, I from January to September 2004 before ICT monitoring, II from October 2004 to June 2005 during ICT monitoring, and III from July 2005 to March 2006 during ICT during with judgement note enforcement. The TDM enforcement rates of VCM increased significantly (p<0.001). Discretionary use of anti-MRSA agents including ABK tended to decrease in periods I and III, so adaptation to monitoring of anti-MRSA agent use occurred in this period. Overall, the dosage period tended to decrease, and the effective achievement of blood concentration rate and first time load enforcement rate of TEIC tended to increase. We conclude that ICT monitoring is effective to promote the correct use of anti-MRSA agents.
