Description

Capacitance probe is the soil moisture gauge which performs continuous measurement of soil water content in several depths without disturbing the soil surface. However, it has not been applied for the fine particle soil like Kanto Loam in previous studies. The objectives of this study are to calibrate the capacitance sensors in a forest with Kanto Loam and to clarify the factors which affect the measurement.
The relationship between SF (scaled frequency) parameter, which has a positive correlation with the soil water content, and soil water content is not linear. The result shows that the SF parameter is influenced by solid phase. In the study, influence of solid phase was corrected depending on the relationship between SF value and the solid phase. As the result, coefficient of determination of the calibration curve has been improved from 0.71 to 0.86 by correcting the influence of a solid phase. The measurement error is ±2.96 %, in full scale. The capacitance probe responds quickly to the rainfall in the Kanto Loam soil, so it is possible to measure the change of the soil moisture amount.
Capacitance probe comes to be able to measure the soil water content of Kanto Loam more accurately by removing influence factors. It is necessary to accumulate more research case for using capacitance probe to measure soil water content of Kanto Loam.
