Abstract

In this study, measures taken by small-medium-and large-sized companies in Aomori Prefecture to promote the health of their employees were investigated in order to establish guidelines for companies to provide effective health-promotion services for their employees. A total of 464 companies in Aomori Prefecture with more than 100 employees were selected for the survey. Questionnaires to be filled in by the employees were sent to the those in charge of health control in each company. Responses were obtained from 311 (67.0%) of the companies. The results showed that many companies are changing the focus of their health-care policy from the conventional negative policy centering on medical checkups and disease management to a more positive policy centering on the promotion of health. However, actual health-promotion programs, especially those in small-and medium-sized companies, are still in the experimental stage. Companies must make positive efforts in the future to provide adequate facilities and professional staff for the health management and health promotion of their employees. It is also necessary for each company to determine methods best suited to the company to establish measures for the promotion of employees' health.
