Description

Zoysia matrella var. pacifica Goudswaard, is treated as a distinct species Z. pacifica M. Hotta & S. Kuroki. This species is easily distinguished from Zoysia matrella by folded, cylindrical, slightly succulent slender leaf lamina (ca. 1 mm in diameter). Dried specimens of Zoysia matrella has usually rolled leaf lamina which have similar appearance to folded cylindrical lamina of Z. pacifica. Living clones of Zoysia matrella, however, has narrow (1.5-2.5 mm wide) flat leaf lamina. A key that distingusihes Zoysia pacifica from Z. matrella is also provided.
