The substantial reduction of crack initiation life due to environmentally assisted cracking is considered as a result of straining electrode in corrosive environment. In this report, the corrosion current from strained metal was measured quantitatively for a various kinds of strain wave form in a simulated electrochemical system to clarify those factors which affect corrosion. Test results showed that slower strain rate, longer strain hold time and higher electric conductivity caused larger charge transfer per cycle. Those factors are considered to enhance the corrosion and result in shorter crack initiation life.
