Abstract
We developed TV wave receiving system with an optical modulator which uses optical fiber cables as a transmission line. It does not require electrical power lines at the receiving end so that transmitting station and the receiving station can be completely separated electrically. The effect of preventing the lightning damage is substantial. However, a failure of the optical modulator occurred in field operation. We evaluated its tolerance against lightning and found out the failure mode. By those studies, new effective methods against lightning surges were carried out
