The effects of molding conditions on interfacial adhesion and the structure of film insert injection moldings which consist of laminated PP film and PP resin were investigated. The film peel test was carried out to evaluate the interfacial adhesion properties. Three types of fracture modes were observed in the peel test. One was the interfacial delamination between film and injected PP which occurred when the film surface was heated below the melting temperature of the film (=130°C) during injection molding. The other fracture modes were delamination between film layers of the film and film breakage. When the film surface was heated above 150°C, the molecular orientation in the film relaxed due to annealing effects by the heat from the injected PP resin, which caused a decrease in the strength of the film. On the contrary, when the film surface was heated between 140 and 150°C, no annealing occurred and because the molecular orientation of the film was not relaxed, the original strength of the film was maintained. Consequently, delamination between film layers occurred.
