Abstract

<p>  This article focuses on the Senate Archives, which became the State Archives later, managed by Karl August Bomansson in the latter half of the 19th century Finland. We deal with the following topics: 1) in what circumstances Bomansson was employed as the first state archivist in 1859; 2) what Bomansson's idea was concerning the aim of the State Archives; 3) what Bomansson and his colleagues did archival activities related to Finland and the State Archives; 4) what the Senate Archives was and how the Senate Archives developed into the State Archives.</p>
