Abstract
The purpose of this research is to explore facilitating function of sandplay. In this paper, the function is defined as the facilitation contributing to a client's self-understanding and self-realization. A qualitative analysis, which was based on Modified Grounded Theory Approach, was conducted on the subjective experience of a woman in her 40s who needed self-realization. The analysis led to the interpretation that the interaction among factors in sandplay produces the facilitating functions.<BR>Interaction among session processes together with inside/outside events can facilitate client's self-realization. The following three points can be noted with the continuity of sessions (i.e., interrelation among sessions): 1) continuity of sandplay can affect client's experience of images; 2) through continuity, client is able to notice transformation of mind; and 3) it is important that client commits himself or herself to inner process in series of sessions and in everyday life.
