Description
This article examines the introspection of a Sandplay maker and discusses nature of a “sense of fitness” from an inclusive viewpoint including “discrepancy” and “fluctuation”, and has abstracted its function hypothetically. A “sense of fitness” is a sense that shows the degree of whether clients can appropriately express their inner image in Sandplay. If we try to express our inner image in Sandplay, we need to abandon its consistency and accuracy at the physical level. Instead, we use “Mitate” (symbolic analogy, substitution for a superior, dynamic perspective), of an ancient Japanese method. Employing all senses, we also pursue our inner image changing with every moment. A “sense of fitness” is a dynamic movement involving discrepancy and fluctuation, which is assumed to have the following functions: impetus of the process, transformation of the image, “self” relativization and movement toward restoration of psychic totality. The healing power of Sandplay occurs through this process, which proceeds with a “sense of fitness”.
