The benign cementoblastoma is classfied as a odontogenic tumor of derived from ectomesenchyme. This tumor is comparatively rare, compromising less than 1% of all odontogenic tumors. The tumor generally occurrs in association with the permanent dentition. Therefore, to our knowledge, there have been only eight cases reported in association with the deciduous teeth.
Recently, we experienced a case of benign cementoblastoma that occurred at the root of right lower second deciduous molar in a 7-year-old girl. Radiographic examination revealed a radiopaque rounded lesion with a well-defined radiolucent border. Under general anesthesia, the tumor was removed and treated with the packed-open method.
Histopathological findings of the removed specimen were characterized by the formation of cementum like hard tissue with the cementoblast like cells and cementoclast like cells scattered. The radiographic observation and histologic finding were consistent with a diagnosis of benign cementoblastoma. After 1 year of surgical treatment, the patient's course was going well and the recurrence was not recognized.
