Abstract
The aim of this paper is to introduce incidents and discourse relating to death with dignity and euthanasia after 2004, which drove the author to write "Ikanai Shintai" (2009) in response to it. And to affirm the life of ALS patients and patients in vegetative state, which were denied by proponents of death with dignity and euthanasia. In particular the movement towards enabling withdrawal of ventilator from ALS patients in severe condition during this time was the underlying motive for writing the book. Super serious communication disability that appears in some ALS patients such as TLS is only a result of others not been able to read the subtle message of ALS patients. This situation can be changed by supporting the medical and care staff with better environment and resource, which would lead to improve social participation and dignity of patients.
