Description
This paper, focusing on the interview research by those who have experiences related to their study themes, clarifies the methodological characteristics and significance of narratives. I examine the previous studies concerning tojisha—the person concerned, within the framework of the relation between interviewers' experiences and study themes, the issue on whether they reveal they have experiences related to the study themes, and positionality. I point out if interview research involves the interviewer's experiences, it is essential to check if the interviewer and interviewee recognize the study theme is related to their experiences. I also point out the narratives generated via such procedure bear qualitative differences, and that when they are considered significant, it is appropriate to relate the interviewer's experiences to the interview.
