Description

Recently various fluorescent reagents have been developed for detecting or probing nucleotides, proteins, and other molecules. Highly sensitive detection devices have also been developed. One of the most popular devices is fluorescent scanner or fluorescent imager. These analyzers are useful for detection and quantification of lipids stained with various fluorescent dyes and fluorescent lipids. Neutral lipids or phospholipids were separated on TLC and stained with fluorescent dyes. Stained lipids could be detected and quantified by a laser-fluorescent scanner. In addition, various kinds of fluorescent lipids have been developed and used for various experiments. Thus, fluorescence detection of lipids is useful and applicable to various lipid studies in post-genome era.
