抄録

ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) for sea-bottom survey or underwater work is rapidly in widespread use. ROV is increasingly required to operate in deeper water, and have multiple functions. It is available in two types, tethered and non-tethered. Since the tethered type is expected to be the "main current" for ROV, it is necessary to develop a tether cable for deep sea ROV which is capable of signal and power transmission, excellent mechanical strength, lightweight, and small-sized. Imagining a transmission system for deep sea ROV, we made experimentally several types of tether cable using optical fiber, high voltage power conductor, and tension member, and also optical and power connectors for such cables. They were tested to evaluate their electrical and mechanical properties under a hydraulic pressure of up to 1,200Kg/cm^2G. As a result we succeeded in making a prototype cable and connectors which meet the target requirements. The success confirms our conviction that practical application of tether cable and connectors for deep sea ROV operating 10,000m depth is quite possible The techniques acquired will be usable not only for deep sea ROV but also in a broad area of ocean engineering.
