Description
The hydrostatic correction coefficients of the triple point cell of water are directly measured using two different types of cells and 3 different thermometers. The mean value of these coefficients obtained in this experiment is -0.856(15)mK/m, which is about 15% lower than the value assigned by the International Temperature Scale of 1990. The pressure dependency of the water-ice equilibrium is also directly measured using a specially designed triple point cell, which is possible to pressurize the water-ice equilibrium by helium. The pressure dependency of -73.9(1)mK/MPa is obtained, which is equivalent to the hydrostatic coefficient of -0.724(1)mK/m. The difference between these coefficients, which is larger than the experimental uncertainties, is shortly discussed comparing the experimental results of the hydrostatic coefficient of a floating ice mantle around the thermometer well. The temperatures at the bottom of the thermometer well is found to be about 0.2mK lower than the temperature extrapolated to the bottom of the well by the hydrostatic correction coefficient.
