Abstract

In the present in vitro study, the effects of calcium and pH levels on DFA III-induced calcium absorption were investigated using jejunum and cecum. The results showed that higher calcium levels result in greater calcium absorption in the jejunum and cecum, but lower DFA III-induced calcium absorption. The decrease in calcium absorption was more marked in the cecum than in the jejunum. On the other hand, changes in pH did not affect calcium absorption or DFA III-induced calcium absorption in the jejunum and cecum. These findings suggest that DFA III-induced calcium absorption is reduced when the calcium concentration in the intestine is high, but is unaffected by changes in pH.
