Description

The constituents of the essential oil obtained from leaves and leafstalk of Ledum palustre L. var. angustum N. Busch, grown in northeast China (Uchimouko) were examined. It is used there as a folk medicine. The oil had a citruslike and spicy, curry odor. It was investigated by a combination of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods. Among the more than 67 component peaks observed by capillary chromatography, 41 compounds were identified. The main compounds of the essential oil were ascaridole, p-cymene and myrtenal.
