Abstract

The essential oils were obtained from roots of Igagayatsuri (Cyperus polystachyos Rottb.), Azegayatsuri (Cyperus globosus Allioni) and Tamagayatsuri (Cyperus difformis L.) by steam distillation in 0.005_??_0.023% yields. The components were separated by means of column chromatography and preparative gas chromatography.<br> Identification of the components was performed on agreement of the tR in GC and mass spectra with those of the authentic specimens.<br> As main components, normal alkanes such as C20H42, C21H44, C22H46, C23H48, C24H50, β-caryophyllene (Tamagayatsuri; T) α-humulene (T), cyperotundone (Igagayatsuri; 1), juniper camphor (I, T), α-cadinol (I, T), methyl 3, 7, 11-trimethyl-ll-hydroxy trans-2, trans-6, trans-9-dodecatrienoate (I), and as a minor one a-copaene (Azegayatsuri; A), α-cedrene (A), δ-cadinene (T), calamenene (A), C16H34 (A), C18H38 (I, A, T), C19H40 (I, A, T), C21H44 (A), methyl 3, 7, 11-trimethyl trans-2, trans-6, cis-9, 11-dodecatetraenoate (T), methyl 3, 7, 11-trimethyl trans-2, trans-6, trans-9, 11-dodecatetraenoate (T), α-cyperone (A), octanol (A), α-terpineol (I), elemol (1, A), nerolidol (A, T), eudesmol (T) were identified.
