Description

The limiting current density of a LaNi5-catalyzed porous anode in an alkaline H2-O2 fuel cell was extremely influenced by absorbing CO2 in the electrolyte. Measurements of the lifetime were performed for electrolyte from which CO2 had been removed.<BR>The lifetime of the anode was determined by hindrance of supplying H2 to reaction sites in the liquid film because of complete filling of the gas film with part of the water produced by electrode reaction. When a 50mmHg supply pressure of H2 was applied, the lifetime at a load current density of 100mA/cmcm2 was lengthened from 600 to 1000hr.
