Lumping models have been employed for kinetic analysis of coal liquefaction based on extraction with solvent or fractional distillation.
Recently, however, considerable attention has been paid to techniques for controlling the liquefied products. Moreover, the influence of reaction conditions on distribution of the products in terms of molecular weight has not been quantitatively understood.
In this study, a continuous model based on molecular weight mass balance was applied to the lowering of molecular weight of the coal liquefaction products derived by hydrogenolysis, and it was demonstrated that : 1) Time course of molecular weight distribution of the products can be represented by the continuous model; 2) The effect of reaction temperature on molecular weight distribution was clarified; 3) The dependence of rate constant on molecular weight varies markedly in the vicinity of a molecular weight of 300.
