Abstract

The composite process of deposition fine particles onto the surface of core particles by a high-speed elliptical-rotor-type mixer is analyzed. In this paper, the effect of charging procedures of fine particles on the composite process is investigated. Two kinds of soda-lime glass beads were selected as core particles, and titanium dioxide was used as fine particles. The mass fraction of fine particles fixed on the surface of core particles was measured with a wet sieve technique, and the coated layer of fine particles was observed by a scanning electron microscope.<BR>As a result, charging a small amount of fine particles in the processed powder at certain intervals is effective for depositing larger amounts of fine particles on the core particles and a more smoother layer can be obtained compared with when all powder materials are charged prior to processing. From these results, a model to explain the composite process was proposed.
