Abstract
To develop a new process producing metal-particles coated by non-conductive powder, the coating mechanism is investigated using a fluidized bed under an electro-magnetic force.
Coating experiments are carried out in a fluidized bed column under an inert (N2) atmosphere : After an assigned amount of non-conductive powder is fluidized in the bed column installed in a magnetic coil, a small amount of metal-particles is fed into the bed and recovered in the form of metal coated with non-conductive powder.
The following results is obtained from the morphological measurement of coated film or powder.
1) There are two coating mechanisms, depending on whether the melting point of non-conductive powder is higher or lower than that of metal particles.
2) There are coating limits depending power supply, gas velocity and the melting point of plastics.
3) Coating thickness is increased with heating power.
