Description
The hydration rate of magnesium oxide in water was experimentally measured to clarify the effect of particle size on the hydration of soft-burned magnesia. The hydration rate of magnesium oxide was proportional to the ratio of residual magnesium oxide, and inversely proportional to the increasing ratio of the magnesium hydroxide generated. The hydration rate increased with reaction temperature and decreasing mean particle size. Hydration rate constants can be estimated from the Arrhenius equation incorporating a term of particle size.
