Abstract

This paper proposes a new measurement technique for mass flow rate of particles flowing in the state of gas-solid suspension by measuring the static electricity. The static electricity is the most effective quantity to measure the small mass flow rate of particles moving at a high velocity. The electric current generated by flowing particles is greatly influenced by the material and shape of pipe used for the transport of particles. The larger static electricity is detected with a thinner pipe due to the increased contact cross section and collision frequency. In the present work, we inserted stick-like obstacles in the detection pipe so as to increase the frequency of collision and contacting cross section. It was confirmed that the mass flow rate of particles as small as 1.0g/s is measured by the newly designed detection pipe.
