Description

The paper deals with mathematical fundamentals of colour and its emulation by colour graphics of such small computers like personal computers and work stations. The proposed system is intended for colorimetric education, however, it can be used to cultivate the sense of colorimetry and system of colours not only for colour engineering but also for artists and designers related with colours. It includes, 1) emulation of the standard colorimetric observer, 2) introduction of several kinds of chromaticity diagrams standardized by the CIE, 3) evaluation of uniformity of the spaces by means of the MacAdam's tolerance ellipses, and 4) introduction of the Munsell colour spaces. Each issue of the items is demonstrated by graphs and by actual colour images displayed on a CRT. Additionally, colours are selectively displayed by their names so that the names of colours are related with actual colours. The paper stresses how to realize accurate colour reproduction.
