Research on Japanese Pickles Package Design and the kansei Analysis

In this research, we focused on the issues of the saturated food market, lack of new technologv and added value to differentiate one's product, and short product life cycle. We proposed that package renewal method might be the alternative solution for that. In the experiment, KJ method and SD method were used to assess the package design in order to find its characteristics. The collected data were analyzed by principal component analysis. The result indicated three components; named, "Overall evaluation", "Peace of mind" and "Taste" was found. By plotting the factor score chart, the characteristics of the package designs is known. This experiment showed that it is a practical way for selecting and testing a new concept product in the process of developing a new food product package design.
