説明

It has previously been found by the present authors that a shrink packing state of raw silk is obtained when paked in the gas of carbon dioxide. In the present study the adsorption of carbon dioxide on variously treated raw silk was measured by the Warburg manometry in order to clarify a mechanism of adsorption of carbon dioxide on raw silk.
The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed showed a tendency of increase in the order of raw silk>high pressure degummed sericin>degummed silk.
Negative correlation was observed between a boiling-off percentage and the amount of carbon dioxide adsorbed on raw silk.
In a desamidizing raw silk, the adsorption was completed in two hours, whereas the adsorption still continued thereafter in the untreated raw silk. On the other hand, the adsorption progressed gradually in high pressure degummed sericin, and it reached an equilibrium state after twenty-four hours. Further, the adsorption amount of carbon dioxide increased according to the increase of styrene grafting ratio on raw silk.
From these results the sericin is considered to be a main adsorbent, in which both the physical and chemical adsorptions are involved.
