抄録

A study was undertaken to see how the wing discs acquire the competence for pupal development during the 5th larval instar of Bombyx mori. The hemolymph ecdysteroid concentration was 40ng/ml at the onset of the last instar. During 48 to 84hr ecdysteroid was detected approximately at 1ng/ml and after 96hr it began to increase gradually. The 2nd increase of the hormone was observed at 132hr. Application of JH I or JH analogue inhibited the mitoses of the wing disc cells both in vivo and in a culture medium. The hemolymph specimens and 20-hydroxyecdysone added to the medium promoted the mitosis of the wing disc in vitro. This type of cultivation study indicated that the sensitivity of the wing disc to ecdysteroid increased during the developmental stage from day 1 to day 3. The overall results suggested that the B. mori wing disc is required to be affected by some hemolymph factor(s) during day 0 to day 3 of the 5th instar for the acquisition of competence for the pupal development, which begins when JH disappears, and that a low concentration of ecdysteroid promotes the process.
