Description

The effects of Cr3+ and Cr6+ on the growth of mulberry seedlings cultured by hydroponics wereinvestigated and several visible obstacles were observed after treating the samples for 20 days. The shoot length, increment of leaf number, chlorophyll content rate, dry weight growth, relative growth rate (RGR) and net assimilation rate (NAR) of mulberry seedlings decreased, following the chromium concentration increased. Especially, the decreasing tendency of those treated by Cr6+ was more noticeable as compared with that treated by Cr3+. Furthermore, all of them were correlated with the chromium concentration, except for NAR and chlorophyll content rate of mulberry seedlings in the fields treated with Cr3+. However, the leaf weight ratios (LWR) were rarely effected by the addition of chromium. The top/root ratios of individuals obviously increased comparing with that of reference individuals, but the differences of individuals were not found between the fields treated with different concentration of Cr3+ or Cr6+.
