As a rule, the increase of speed in silk reeling results in the increase in the reeling tension and affects the tensile properties of raw silk. In this case, it appears that in the raw silk reeled with the MK line (very fine bave) the tenacity and Young's modulus were affected and conversely in raw silk reeled with the N5D line (very coarse bave) the elongation was affected.
A negative correlation between tenacity and elongation of raw silk was observed in the case of the MK line, while a positive correlation was observed in the case of the N5D line.
Based on those results, it is considered that the differences between the MK and N5D lines are responsible for variation in the tensile properties of silk, which in turn account for the differences in the micro-structure of their silk fibroin between the MK and N5D lines.
