Abstract
The effects of anti-microbial agents on growth and development of the yellow-spotted longicorn beetle, and on microbial contamination to diet were investigated for the improvement of artificial diet for mass-rearing of the beetle. Of two kinds of artificial diets, starter was used to newly hatched larvae, and grower was used to insects from 2 week-old larvae to adults, respectively. The former have only two kinds of anti-microbial agents, sorbic acid and chloramphenicol, and the latter have four anti-microbial ones, sorbic acid, chloramphenicol, methyl p-hydroxy-benzoate, and formalin. Microbial contamination to artificial diets for rearing of the beetle under ordinary room condition was inhibited enough to carry out succesive generation of the beetle by use of above two kinds of diets. These anti-microbial agents in diets had no effect on larval growth, pupation, emergence, insect viabilities, and body weight of adults.
