抄録

The present paper deals with phage induction by the treatment with ultraviolet light (UV) and mitomycin C (MMC) in Pseudomonas mori, the pathogen of bacterial blight of mulberry.<br>Of five lysogenic strains tested, two strains were induced with either UV or MMC and one strain was induced with MMC, while two strains were not induced with these inducers.<br>The rate of phage induction depended on UV dose: the highest phage production occurred at UV dose which was able to kill 90 percent of the bacteria. Phage induction with MMC occurred at concentrations of 0.5 to 5μg/ml of nutrient broth.<br>The inducible strains produced their temperate phages in three hours of latent period following the treatment with either UV or MMC.<br>Phage induction in an inducible strain by UV was almost completely inhibited when the bacteria was exposed to a definite dose of visiblelight within 45 minutes, 1/4 ″of latent period, after UV irradiation. This result indicates that photo reactivation took place in phage induction of Ps. mori
