Abstract

In this study, we have developed real-time safety advice system using wearable sensor on driving simulator. The most frequent causes of traffic accidents in Japan is drivers' error. However the existing evaluation systems focused on driving-device data (e.g. accelerator, brake, steering wheel) only for evaluating driver's skill. Therefore, those systems did not consider driver's motion. In this paper, we propose a new evaluation system of driving skill based on driver's motion using wearable sensor. Our system measures driver's head motion and estimates driver's safety scanning behavior. By using estimated results, this system gives safety advice to the driver based on the evaluation result of his/her driving behavior from the view point of active safety in real time. Since our system works on driving simulator, we can evaluate driver's skill on the road under construction or the distant road.
