Description

Anodal peroxidase isozyme banding patterns of mulberry leaf blades were examined to determine the relation of the patterns to the distribution of mulberry Morus acidosa GRIFF. in the Okinawa district. The pattern VI with a major band at the A6 site was detected for the first time in M. acidosa in this district. More than 80 percent of 407 mulberry plants examined showed the pattern I. All of the six patterns were detected in leaf blades collected in the northern and central parts of Okinawa, while only three patterns I, VI and V, crosstype of I and VI, in those collected in the southern part. Distribution of mulberry plants with a major band I, III or VI was discussed in relation to the distribution of mulberry M. acidosa tested for peroxidase isozyme.
