Abstract

A new β-tubulin cDNA of Bombyx mori was isolated. Comparison of the deduced amino acid sequence with testis-specific Bombyx β-tubulin gave 79% identity. Northern analysis in wing discs showed that the β-tubulin gene encodes a 2.0kb mRNA whose expression was highest at S2 stage. Injection of 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) increased the β-tubulin transcription in the wing disc. In situ hybridization revealed a lot of β-tubulin mRNA in the tracheoles at S2 stage. These results imply the possibility that the β-tubulin plays a role in the evagination of wing discs.
