Abstract

This paper investigates effects of the color of oshibori on thermal sensation in the hands. We conducted a subjective evaluation experiment concerned with the temperature of oshibori using the method of paired comparisons. We employed 13 different colors of oshibori; one white oshibori and twelve colored oshibori (six hues (4R, 8YR, 5Y, 3G, 5B, and 7P) × two tones (pale and vivid)), in the experiment. Temperature of the white oshibori was set at 50 degrees C and that of the color oshibori was set at various temperatures from 44 to 56 degrees C. We obtained the temperature at which the selection rate of the answer became 50 % and defined as the point of subjective isothermal. As a result, the pale red oshibori was felt 0.77 degrees C hotter than the white oshibori, and the vivid blue oshibori was felt 0.95 degrees C colder than the white oshibori.
