In this paper, the results of observations are described on the spike of a race of Morus nigra L. distributed in the West Asia. The scion brought from Lebanon was raised by grafting in 1962, and in the following year, the sapling was transplanted into a pot. In 1964, the flower became to bloom. The chromosome number in the somatic cell of a root tip was determined to be the same as that of Morus nigra L. (2n=308) already reported, and then the detailed study was made on the flower. The results were summarized as follows.
1. This mulberry tree, a race of Morus nigra L., produced unisexual (male or female) and bisexual spikes. Their spikes are, in size, rather small compared with those of 2-6x species.
2) Both male and female florets were covered densely with giantic hairs. The latter florets were also with hairy vertical stigma and lacked in style.
3) Florets, ovaries, pollen grains and perianths with gigas type were also found. It was indicated that the mulberry tree has shown the typical characteristics of high polyploidy.
4) The pollen grains stained by aceto-carmine was found to be morphologically healthy with few abortive ones. There existed a great deal of pollen grains with three, four and five germ pores, respectively. Pollen with two germ pores were seldom found.
